Bhai aboo

Claudio Veeraragoo - Topic

Bhai aboo is another Claudio Veeraragoo recording in Les plus grands moments du Sega. The 2022 release date belongs to this catalogue edition, rather than the song’s origins.

Qui fine arrivé and an electric sound

For the Moris Zekler reissue, Pan African Music spoke with Veeraragoo about Qui fine arrivé. The account dates the recording to 1971 and links its sound with African music popular in Mauritius at the time. It also identifies the group associated with the recording as a predecessor of the Satanik Group.

This places the song within a period when sega musicians were incorporating electric and amplified sounds. The reissue is a later presentation of that work, rather than a new 2020 performance. The original single and the compilation belong to different stages in the recording’s circulation.

A catalogue beyond one reissue

The National Library of Mauritius records Bakané. Claudio Sega de l’Ile Maurice as a 2006 compact disc published by Kabana Music in Terre Rouge. Such bibliography supplies a concrete release trail beyond the tracks most often repeated in international compilations.

His repertoire is also associated with Ambalaba, later taken up by Maxime Le Forestier. Recordings, reinterpretations and reissues have carried different parts of that work to different audiences. Veeraragoo’s place in sega history includes the making of music across those changing formats and contexts.
